Channel Islands Information and Tourism

The Channel Islands are located in the English Channel, south of England and close to the north-western region of Normandy, France. Characterised by mild and often extremely sunny weather and literally hundreds of miles of coastline, the Channel Islands are home to plentiful sandy beaches, hidden coves, nature reserves and many delightful harbours. The main islands are Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, Herm and Alderney, which are surrounded by a series of smaller rocky islets.

Jersey is the biggest of all the Channel Islands and has a population of around 95,000 people, almost 30,000 of which live in St. Helier, the capital town. A definite mixture of both England and France, Jersey contains a wealth of exceptional seafood restaurants and glorious beachfronts, such as St. Aubin's Bay, St. Ouen's Bay and St. Brelade's Bay, all of which remain quite natural and extremely undeveloped. Mont Orgueil Castle is just one of Jersey's many iconic castles, along with St. Aubin's Fort and La Corbiere Lighthouse.

Guernsey is the number two island after Jersey and contains a number of ancient fortifications and prehistoric structures, including the Neolithic burial site of Le Dehus Dolmen. Many attractions are based around St. Peter Port, the main town on the island. Castle Cornet is amongst the most notable landmarks on Guernsey and presides over the St. Peter Port waterfront.
